The Decorah Community School District will be increasing its school lunch prices, starting Monday, October 3rd.
The Iowa Department of Public Instruction recently contacted Decorah Schools and said the district needed to raise meal prices according to the "Paid Lunch Equity" tool calculated by the state.
Those calculations showed Decorah should set its price at an average of $2.38 per meal. However, school districts are allowed to round down to the nearest 5 cent price, so the new price average will be $2.35 per meal.
Breakfast and milk prices will not be affected.
Elementary students (early childhood through 4th grade) will pay $2.25 for each lunch, while Decorah Middle School students will pay $2.35 and Decorah High School students will pay $2.50.
