Showers and storms will return to Winneshiek County through the early morning and into the afternoon on Sunday, according to the National Weather Service La Crosse Office.
While most areas are expected to receive just 1/2 to 1 inch of rain, there are a couple of concerns. First, some rainfall could be "locally higher." That's been the case with thunderstorms during the past month, where some areas get an inch or two of rain and others get over ten inches of rain.
The second concern is that with grounds already saturated and unable to accept any more moisture, additional rain will run off into already high running rivers and streams, and could result in flash flooding.
The National Weather Services says those who live in areas hit hard by the recent rainfall, or near waterways already running high (or in a flood), should be alert for the possibility of more flash flooding and/or additional rises on rivers and for mud and rock slides in hilly terrain.
