It's official.  Groundbreaking ceremonies have been held for the new Fairfield Inn & Suites being developed by Rebound Hospitality and Decorah Hotel Partners on Highway 9 at the former Bluffs Inn site.

Rebound Hospitality CEO Brett Reese on Wednesday noted that the former Bluffs Inn property "could have sat undeveloped," but Decorah officials made their case that the community needed another hotel.

Reese said city officials were "outstanding to work with," and Decorah Mayor Don Arendt returned the compliment, saying the new hotel will be "a terrific addition" to Decorah.

Construction crews have already begun removing dirt and rock from the site.  Rebound Hospitality is planning to open the hotel in the summer of 2017.
