Decorah City Council approves payment to Winneshiek County Development

The Decorah City Council has unanimously approved supporting Winneshiek County Development financially to the tune of $12,190.

The figure is an increase from previous years.  The new figure was computed by assessing a flat amount per person within the City of Decorah.

WCDI Director Stephanie Fromm told city council members Monday evening that her agency has been working hard to find new businesses to move into empty downtown Decorah storefronts.  She says WCDI has done 52 business counselings in the past year--and 30 of them involved potential new businesses.  Likewise, the agency has had contacts with 47 business people asking about opening along Water Street and another 8 to 10 inquiring about space in the Decorah Business Park.
