Thomas e-mails: "With the recent flooding damage to the skateboard park and Wold Park flooding, where did the skateboard ramps go? Are there plans to design a new skate park in the future?"
Mr. Answer Person says: "Wold Park, like several other parks in the Decorah parks system, got hit hard by the flooding. A couple of the ramps at the skateboard park were destroyed in the flooding and had to be removed. A few ramps remain--but the skateboard park isn't what it was before the flood.
Decorah Park-Rec is aware of the damages to the skateboard park and is beginning to learn whether the ramps can be repaired or whether new ramps need to be purchased.
At the same time, this is why FEMA designation of Northeast Iowa as a federal disaster area because of the August 24th flooding is such a big deal--the money that would come with the designation would go a long way to help bring about the repairs not just in Wold Park, but throughout the city.
Park-Rec officials say they're working on fixing Wold Park, but they also ask for the public's patience.
