All the rain we've had this summer is starting to be a bigger challenge for NE Iowa farmers.
Decorah agronomist Brian Lang says much of far Northeast Iowa received 28 to 30 inches of rain from May 1st through Thursday, September 8th. Decorah's rainfall total was 29.64 inches—before Friday's rain.
Earlier this month Lang commented that he was pleasantly surprised to see corn ears in flooded fields be in good condition. He says his latest field inspections showed corn in one field to have ears in pretty good condition, however, a second field had corn with various degrees of vivipary, which is premature sprouting of corn kernels.
