Saying that "It's raining dogs and cats in Decorah" need not refer to the risk of flooding.

The Humane Society of Northeast Iowa (HSNEI) is getting ready for its fall fundraiser by putting ceramic artworks of dogs or cats into the windows of several Decorah business.

Nine local artists--Carl Homstad, Bonnie Koloc, Jim Updegraff, Ben Moore, Ruth Green, Kathleen Sweet, Alyssa Ritter, Lauren Anderson, and Charlene Selbee--have painted statues that will be auctioned off on Thursday, September 22nd, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the third annual Love & Friendship Adoption Center Tails & Treasures fundraiser at the Hotel Winneshiek.

The statues can be seen in windows of participating businesses on Water Street in Decorah.  Each statue has been given a distinctive look by the local artists.

HSNEI officials say this will be the largest and most elaborate fundraiser celebration HSNEI has ever held.  Tickets are $40 in advance and include entertainment, heavy hors' devours, silent and live auctions, and raffles. All proceeds go to support animals at the Love & Friendship Adoption Center. Tickets are available at www.hsnei.org or at the Adoption Center at 2345 Millenium Road, Decorah, IA 52101.
