St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester says a former Decorah resident is in fair condition at the hospital following a traffic accident Saturday afternoon in which she lost control of her car Saturday afternoon on Locust Road.
Lauren Cantine was westbound on Locust Road in the 600 block around 12:15 Saturday afternoon. For an undetermined reason she crossed the center line, her car left the road and it hit a group of mailboxes.
Cantine had facial injuries and possible head injuries. She was not responsive at the scene. She was taken by ambulance to Winneshiek Medical Center, then airlifted by helicopter to St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, where she is in fair condition.
While searching through Cantine's wallet for identification, the officer on the scene found a plastic baggy containing a white powder, which field tested positive for cocaine. Cantine has been charged with possession of a controlled substance.
