It's now official--the 8.05 inches of rainfall that Decorah received on August 24th was the greatest 24-hour rainfall total for Decorah since rainfall records began in 1893.
Decorah weather observer Richard Bernatz says Decorah received another 5.34 inches of rainfall the rest of August. The 13.39 inch total for August precipitation is the second highest August in 124 years--only 2007's total of 15.11 inches was higher.
Furthermore, Bernatz has crunched the numbers and has learned precipitation has been 16.26 inches higher than normal over the past three months and 18.46 inches higher during the past 12 months.
This summer (June 1st through August 31st) was the second wettest summer on record, with the 29.09 inch total just a little over two-tenths of an inch away from setting the all-time record.
