Decorah Schools to open Friday

The Decorah Community School District will begin classes on Friday, August 26, 2016 at the regularly schedule time.  Buses will run on their regularly scheduled routes as conditions will allow.  If you are aware of road conditions that will not allow the bus to reach you, please notify your driver or call the Central Office at 382-4208.

We at the schools are certainly cognizant of the range of emotions all will be feeling tomorrow — everything from the joy of the first day to the agony many are feeling, both students and staff, with the sense of loss.  Yet it's our hope that, for the vast majority of both students and staff, getting back into a routine will be helpful.

We likewise know issues will exist.  There will be buses permanently parked, for the time being, around Carrie Lee and the Middle School due to flood-related issues at the bus barn.  Please consider this when dropping off or picking up your children for appointments during the day.  It's entirely possible buses won't be able to reach all students on their routes or may run late due to washed-out roads or bridges.  We'll do our best to make those children feel as welcomed and special as they deserve when they arrive, whether that be after school begins on Friday, or even next week.  If you know of displaced families who may need to be picked up at a new location, have them call the Central Office (382-4208) and we'll do our very best to get them on a bus and to school.

For parents of students in TK (Transitional Kindergarten) and Kindergarten, all will come to school on Friday as was originally planned.  All other Early Childhood classes at West Side Early Childhood Center will still begin on Monday as previously scheduled.
