From the Winneshiek County Sheriff's Department/City of Decorah/Winneshiek County Emergency Government:
"Old Stage Road into Freeport is currently passable. Anywhere else within Winneshiek County you could still come into contact with standing water, rising water, wash outs or trees down so drive cautiously. Spillville is still currently still experiencing high water levels and there are only a few routes to get into Spillville. County Road W14 into Spillville is currently passable. Fort Atkinson is still experiencing flooding as well. Use extreme caution when entering structures that have been flooded.
The shelter at Stone Ridge Church has closed. A shelter has opened at the Decorah Public Library. At this time no volunteers are needed
Flood Damage Waste Disposal:
• 'White Goods' (refrigerators, washing machines, microwaves, freezers, dehumidifiers, water heaters, etc.) should be brought to the Recycling Center in Freeport (2510 172nd Ave.)
• 'Soft Items' (carpet, furniture, rugs, etc.) can be taken to the lower Oneota Community Coop Parking Lot or the Recycling Center Thursday, August 25th at 10am through Sunday, August 28th. Please direct all questions regarding disposal of flood damaged items to Winneshiek County Recycling, (563)379-6239.
