Winneshiek County is experiencing major flooding Wednesday.

The Upper Iowa River at Freeport and the Turkey River at Spillville have overflowed their banks.  Freeport is currently being evacuated, while Bluffton, Decorah, Fort Atkinson and any other areas along rivers and streams in Winneshiek County are also being significantly impacted.

An emergency shelter has been set up at Stone Ridge Community Church, located at the intersection of Montgomery Street and Highway 9 in Decorah.  The Salvation Army will be located at Stone Ridge Community Church and will have food and cleaning kits available.

There are sandbags available at the Winneshiek County Sheriff's Office in Decorah.

Multiple roads within Winneshiek County have been closed and washed out due to the flooding.  Due to strained resources not all roadways (especially secondary roads) have been checked or barricaded.

If you DO NOT have an emergency, please call police at (563) 382-4268, otherwise, emergency calls can be made to 9-1-1.
