"Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" is the message area law enforcement officers are preaching for the Labor Day holiday.
The National HIghway Traffic Safety Administration has started a "Special Traffic Enforcement Program," or "STEP," that runs from now through Labor Day.
The emphasis will be on preventing drunk driving because during the 2014 Labor Day holiday weekend, 40 percent of the fatalities in traffic crashes involved drunk drivers--the highest percentage over the five-year period from 2010 to 2014.
The NHSTA says over 10,000 people die in the United States each year due to accidents involving drunk driving.
