Winnesheik County's Roadside Management Department is getting three grants from the Living Roadway Trust Fund. Winneshiek County Roadside Manager Adam Rodenberg says the three grants total $36,003.98.
The first grant will fund an update project of the Winneshiek County Roadside Inventory. "The last inventory was done in 1989, or 1990, I can't remember exactly," Rodenberg said. "It's just outdated and hard to interpret now so that needs to get done."
The rest of the money will go to fund equipment several new projects, including the roadside management plan that was approved Monday by the County Board of Supervisors.
The other two grants will fund the purchases of new roadside equipment, including a 940-gallon Hydroseeder.
According to Rodenberg, the Hydroseeder, made by the FINN corporation, will contribute to a big part of the new roadside vegetation management plan which aims to eliminate visual hazards along roadsides while introducing more native plant species to reduce erosion and promote wildlife habitat restoration.
