Decorah resident Edna Schrandt--a longtime volunteer for 4-H programs in Winneshiek County and the manager of the Winneshiek County Fair for 27 years--on Wednesday was recognized by the Iowa State Fair as its "Iowan of the Day."
The presentation was made at 2:30 p.m. at the State Fairgrounds. The honor was sponsored in part by the Iowa State Fair Blue Ribbon Foundation, which has generated more than $118 million for renovations and improvements to the Iowa State Fairgrounds since 1993.
Schrandt has been recognized by the Decorah Area Chamber of Commerce and by The Community Foundation of Northeast Iowa and has been inducted into the Association of Iowa Fairs' Hall of Fame. She has been a longtime volunteers for a number of causes, including United Way and Pony Express Riders of Iowa.
Founded in 1997, the "Iowan of the Day" program allows the Blue Ribbon Foundation to recognize Iowans who have made a difference in others' lives.
