(The following Letter to the Editor has been submitted by Jill Amdahl of Decorah):
Congressman Rod Blum has proposed ten debates with his opponent, Monica Vernon, before the November 8th election. This is an important election and Iowans deserve to hear from the candidates themselves when it comes to the issues that will impact their lives.
Mrs. Vernon insists that just two debates, one in each of the candidates' home towns (Cedar Rapids and Dubuque) will be more than enough. As a resident of Decorah, I am disappointed that Mrs. Vernon's decision effectively prevents me from attending one of the debates.
Why won't Vernon debate in Decorah? If she doesn't have enough courage to debate, how will she ever stand up to special interests in Washington, D.C.? I urge all voters to contact her campaign to let her know that Decorah voters matter too."
