The Winneshiek County Historic Preservation Commission has received a $3,000 grant from the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs to help pay the cost of the renovation of the Highlandville School.
The building was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2014. But the building needs work--including the repair of cracked and delaminated plaster and peeling paint, the removal of mildew and the repainting of the building interior.
The Winneshiek County Historical Society is acting as the fiscal agent for the remodeling project, accepting donations from the public. Donations can be sent to: The Highlandville School Project, c/o The Winneshiek County Historical Society, P.O. Box 63, Decorah, IA 52101
Also, WCHPC and the Foot-Notes band will be holding a fundraising auction and dance at the schoolhouse on September 10th. Admission is $15. The doors will open at 6:30 p.m., the auction begins at 7:00 p.m. and the dance begins at 8:00 p.m.
