Winneshiek County's Sheriff's Office has a new Deputy Sheriff.
Mike Foland, an Independence native who served in the Navy during Operation Desert Storm, started in his new position on Monday. Mike attended the Police Science program at Hawkeye Community College back in 2007, earning an AAS degree. After earning a degree, Foland started his career in law enforcement with the Jesup Police Department in 2008 and then attended the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy in 2009.
Foland has previously served in the Fayette County Sheriff's Office in 2012 as a Deputy Sheriff and Emergency Management Coordinator. He was then hired by the West Union Police Department, where he served as a Lieutenant and Interim Police Chief. In his time in Fayette County and West Union, Foland gained experience in setting up the patrol cars' computers.
