According to Associate Athletic Director Alex Smith, the "heavy machinery construction" for Luther's upgraded baseball and softball stadiums is nearing completion. The rest of the work will be mostly superficial according to Smith.

The stanchions for the stadium seating area have been built and the press boxes will added on top of that.

"After that we have a little more work to do, but most of the 'heavy machine work' will be done," Smith said. "We still have to add some siding for the seating area and then things like landscaping and concessions to work on, plus the donor board and sound systems and stuff like that."

One of the special features of the new stadium, is that the blue seats that will fill the stadium were actually purchased from the Metrodome in Minneapolis, while it was being demolished in January 2012.

Smith said that excitement over the new stadiums is very palpable and they will both be a great place to catch a game when they open for the season next spring.

"[Baseball] Coach Nikkel and [Softball] Coach Hartl have had some current players down on campus recently, for Nordic Fest and other events, and you can tell they are excited," Smith said. "I think players are excited, and  alums are proud to donate to something like this. I am also sure that this will do wonders for recruiting in the future for Luther's strong baseball and softball programs."
