Viking Stadium at Decorah High School now has a new surface on its running track--although a little more work needs to be done.
Crews over the weekend removed the old surface on the track and installed the new surface. However, the new surface still needs to cure--so school officials are asking the public to stay off the track. The track will be striped and numbered after August 15th.
Skyline Construction is in charge of the overall track improvement project, after submitting a bid of $347,777.29 for the project. Money to pay for the track improvement project will come from state PPEL/SILO funds received by the Decorah School District.
The school district is also paying $107,000 to install a new scoreboard at the stadium, with the money coming from community contributions, including donations from the Decorah Viking Athletic Booster Club.
