For the first time in 11 months, temperatures in Decorah in July were slightly cooler than average. That might be traced to the 9.66 inches of rain that fell in July.
Decorah weather observer Richard Bernatz says the temperature averaged 72.3 degrees--0.2 degrees cooler than the 120 year average in Decorah. That average came despite the high temperature reaching 92 degrees on July 21st and 22nd.
Compared with July 2016, 57 Julys were warmer and 64 were cooler. July's all-time warmer temperature in the last 120 years was the 111 degree high reached on July 14th, 1936.
But the bigger weather story in July was the 9.66 inches of rainfall. That included 3.07 inches of rain that fell July 23rd. On average, 4.05 inches of rain falls in Decorah in July. For the past 12 months, Decorah has received 7.52 inches more rainfall than normal.
