Nordic Fest 50th anniversary book launches this week

Posted: Wed, Jul 20, 2016 1:48 PM

Last Saturday, Decorah residents and Nordic Fest fans got their first glimpse of the 304-page book (and attached DVD) commemorating the rich history of the nonprofit, noncommercial Nordic Fest.

Nordic Fest hosted its first event in 1967 as Decorah Area Junior Chamber and Vesterheim pulled together a joint project focused on the authentic Norwegian cultural connection present in Decorah. Nordic Fest still upholds this original mission, and is supported by a wide array of community volunteers and sponsors.

The book was envisioned in 2013, and volunteers began researching, photo gathering and interviewing for the eventual creation of this book.

All proceeds for this book will be given to the Vesterheim Norwegian American Museum to support their intake and proper organization of the Nordic Fest archives.

Up through Wednesday, July 27, the book/DVD combo is available for sale for $50, 23% off its regular price. The book may be purchased via credit card online at www.nordicfest.com. Shipping is an additional fee. The book is also available for sale via cash or check during regular business hours at the Decorah Area Chamber of Commerce, 507 West Water Street in Decorah.

On Thursday July 27 (the first day of Nordic Fest), the book/DVD combo price increases to $65 and will remain available online and at the Decorah Area Chamber of Commerce (Nordic Fest Headquarters) during the event
