The Decorah Community School Board has approved a sharing agreement for the Director of Operations and Maintenance position with North Winneshiek Schools. The current, part time staff member at North Winneshiek has resigned, creating the need. Greg Schaller will expand his current duties to be available for one day per week, and direct Decorah staff to do work as needed at North Winneshiek, or enlist contracted service providers.
Although there was some concern that this was not necessarily a sound business decision the Decorah Board agreed this was an opportunity to "provide support to the people of both districts" as the schools move toward merger. Some board members also felt that a familiarity with the North Winneshiek site would be advantageous, should Decorah need to use that facility temporarily, prior to the construction of new elementary facilities in Decorah.
