On Monday night the Decorah Community School Board approved an additional teaching position for the Middle School. Officials stated that the upcoming 6th and 7th grades were experiencing a "bubble," and that the position would keep class size from expanding to the low 30's.
Administration conceded that this was a budgetary concern but would make it work. They felt it was necessary to provide students and teachers with the best possible teaching and learning environments.
The numbers for the mentioned grades have increased significantly over the summer, and additional students can be expected to enroll prior to classes beginning. Most of the students are from new families moving into the district.
