Winneshiek County Sheriff Dan Marx says deadly force is always a last resort for police officers

Winneshiek County Sheriff Dan Marx says he would like to set the record straight.

Marx says since the shootings of last week across the country, he's heard some talk about the need to give police officers better training in the use of deadly force.  But Marx says that's already the number one topic at police training sessions.

Deadly force has always been a last resort, he told county supervisors on Monday.  One of the reasons that's the case, he says, is because there's so much collateral damage when there is a shooting by police--it's not just the victim who is affected, it's the police officer, the police department and the community.
