The warming trend in Decorah continued in June.
Decorah weather observer Richard Bernatz says the average temperature in town during June was 70.5 degrees--a full two-and-a-half degrees warmer than the average the last 120 years for which records have been kept.
Bernatz says since 1894, only 25 Junes have had higher average temperatures, while 94 Junes were cooler and one was the same.
Bernatz adds that warmer than average stretches of seven months or longer have happened in Decorah just 14 times since 1893--and ten of those have come since 1970. By contrast, there have been 12 times since 1893 that there were seven or more consecutive months with below average temperatures--and only four of those have occurred since 1970.
June was a wet month in Decorah, with 6.04 inches of precipitation. That was 1.34 inches more than the average precipitation total. For the last 12 months, precipitation in Decorah has been nearly average.
