Decorah residents Reed and Sandy Carlson will have to wait at least 40 days to learn whether they can proceed with their plans to build a house in Iowa City that is a replica of the University of Iowa's Kinnick Stadium.
Neighbors of the Carlson's property have filed an appeal with the Iowa City Board of Adjustment, claiming that the proposed 7,500 square-foot home does not fit the character of the neighborhood.
City officials in Iowa City have issued a building permit for the property at 101 Lusk Avenue, ruling that the home was intended for single-family use.
However, the filing of the appeal with the Iowa City Board of Adjustment puts construction on hold. The Board will discuss the matter at an August 10th meeting.
The Board of Adjustment makes the final decision on matters of zoning, variances and permits, unless the board itself is taken to court.
