Through this week, the entire Bible is being read aloud outside of the Winneshiek County Courthouse. Readers from the Iowa Prayer Caucus Network have volunteered to take turns reading the text in its entirety in front of all 99 courthouses throughout Iowa.
In Winneshiek County, the readers started reading on Monday at 9:00 a.m. and are planning to finish on Saturday by 5:00 p.m. The current reader was in the middle of the book of Leviticus at lunchtime on Tuesday.
A similar event occurred last year in the rotunda of the State Capitol building in Des Moines. Now, the IPCN has successfully gotten all the counties involved. According to IPCN officials, reading the Bible in its entirety takes about 80 hours.
