Decorah City Council members will look to 15 other Iowa cities for guidelines on how much money Decorah's city department heads should be paid.
The Personnel Committee Monday night approved a list of comparable Iowa cities (http://www.decorahnews.com/news-stories/2016/06/13893.html) to contact for information about the salaries they pay their department heads.
Committee chair Kirk Johnson says the goal would be to get such information now, then use it to adjust salaries in the future. Personnel Committee members agreed to take three years to review the eight City of Decorah departments.
An informal poll of committee members disclosed they would like to see Decorah's salaries be set at around 60 percent of the average of the salaries in the other 15 communities.
