Transitions are beginning with the North Winneshiek and Decorah Schools.
This fall there will be a shared art and a shared music position at the elementary level. A North Winneshiek teacher will work one hour each week in those areas in Decorah. Decorah experienced scheduling problems and over extension of staff in those areas last year due to the expansion of Transitional Kindergarten into an every day program.
North Winneshiek and Decorah will also share the services of Cheryl Miller, currently the principal at Carrie Lee Elementary. Miller will receive a supplemental contract of $12,000 in addition to her current $83,330 salary. By sharing, the Decorah Community School District will save $51,719. The Board asked that the arrangement be closely reviewed after the first three months.
Miller will be assuming responsibilities at North Winneshiek because their Superintendent and Principal Tim Dugger will be vacating his principal duties as he begins sharing superintendent duties with Postville and North Winneshiek. Superintendent Mike Haluska, and Facilitator of Data and Assessment Dana Spry will share Carrie Lee Principal responsibilities as needed when Miller is gone from the building.
