Will the City of Decorah sell property to the Decorah Community School District?

Will the City of Decorah be willing to sell property to the Decorah Community School District? That is the question several Decorah School Board members want to know as they pursue potential future sites for new elementary school facilities.

Recently Superintendent Mike Haluska and School Board President Ron Fadness met on an informal basis with members of the City Property Committee and other council members. The specific property in question is at the intersection of Heivly and Claiborne Streets (location of city softball field and recycling dumpsters). Although not completely established as the favored site, some feel this is the only viable site for new school construction.

At their next meeting the School Board is expected to further define their position on site location, and ways to discuss that position with the City Council.
