North Winn Road resurfacing costs concern Winneshiek County officials

Winneshiek County officials have said the resurfacing of the North Winn Road is one of their top priorities.  But rising cost of construction and the size of the project have county officials trying to figure out how to fund the project.

County Engineer Lee Bjerke says two large culverts on the road will have to be rehabilitated and extended and the remaining cross road structures replaced—and he's gotten an estimated price tag of $2 million for the cross road structure work.  That doesn't include the costs of repaving the road, which might be higher than expected because of the amount of work that will have to be done to make the base of the road more stable.

County supervisor Dean Thompson on Monday suggested there's only one possible solution to the price estimates—to do the project in pieces over a couple of years, so enough funding is available.
