The Marine Recruitment Center, located on Water Street across from Java John's, is holding weekly workouts throughout the summer at 5:00 p.m. on Thursdays.
This past week, several new recruits were in attendance. One of those recruits was Decorah native Austin Keck.
"Basically we're just out here trying to get ready for basic training," Keck said. "For the physical and mental parts."
Keck said that the workouts are tough but manageable.
"We do Initial Strength Tests (IST), pull ups, sit-ups, and a 1.5 mile run," Keck said. "We do running on the trails here in Decorah, to get some scenery."
According to Keck, people interested in joining the Marines can come to these workouts to see what they are like.
"If you wanna join the Marines, come down here and talk to Sergeant Murphy," Keck said. "He'll give you all the details pretty much. When I came to talk to him he gave me all the things I needed to know. He gives it honest and straight."
