Frankville Water District is up and running

Posted: Mon, Jun 13, 2016 11:38 AM

For the first time ever, Frankville has an operating water system.

Engineering consultant George Tekippe from Fehr Graham Engineering told Winneshiek County supervisors Monday morning, "The system is operating."  Tekippe says 54 buildings have been hooked into the municipal water system.  28 buildings are already using water from the municipal system.

Tekippe says the construction project is expected to wrap up on Wednesday, with conrtactors finishing a few minor odds and ends.  The first water meter readings will be done in July, with the first water bills being sent out in August.

Tekippe says Frankville now has "a viable water system" and he concludes that the system is "established and running nicely."

Supervisors on Monday approved paying some $257,000 in construction bills.  The county acted as a financial agent for the project, but now that the water system is up and running, that responsibility will be turned over to Frankville.
