Letter to the Editor: Don't shoot the messenger over Decorah Fire Department overtime issue

Crystal Harrell of Decorah has submitted this Letter to the Editor in response to Rick Valley's comment regarding fire department overtime:

I do hope Mr. Valley and the other citizens of Winneshiek County realize that Mr. Bird does not, in fact, create these guidelines.  He is simply the messenger, in this situation.  Reminding the department that overtime is forbidden is part of his job, whether or not he agrees with the sentiment.  That is why the fire department brought it up at the city hall meeting and not to Mr. Bird, directly.  Bringing his income into the matter is not only irrelevant, but also ignorant.
