The Decorah Police Department has just completed a two week "Special Traffic Enforcement Program." Police say they issued 31 tickets during that time, made eight narcotics arrests and responded to six vehicle accidents.
Nine drivers were ticketed for speeding; seven for seat belt violations; four for having no insurance; three for registration violations, three for stop sign or stop light violations; two for driving with a revoked or suspended license and three for other violations.
Before the STEP began, 87 percent of motorists were using their seat belts. Following the enforcement program, 91 percent of motorists were using seat belts.
