Letter to the Editor: Misguided priorities at work at City Hall

(The following is a Letter to the Editor submitted by Rick Valley of Decorah):

I'm very SHOCKED that the City Council will LOCK the doors of the Fire Department rather than pay overtime for the small paid staff!  I'm especially shocked after the City Council's recent HUGE increase in the salary of Mr. Bird

Is this an example of misguided priorities?  The men that help insure that our volunteer firefighters are supported as they rush to fight fires for the people of Decorah and fire district SHOULD be considered at the very least as important as having your city administrator have a competitive salary!! If my house were on fire, I don't think I would care if the city administrator's salary wasn't competitive with Waverly, especially if the volunteers had to unlock and ready the equipment before they could come to our assistance.

This is another example that seems as if the City Council via City Administrator Chad Bird is anti-workers, but pro-administrator.
