When Congress authorized funding for the Federal Aviation Administration, it did so only through July 15th. Beyond that time, the expectation is that funding will be renewed--but it has not been yet.
That uncertainty is making the City of Decorah nervous. The city opened bids on a project that includes the construction of a new seven-stall hangar at the Decorah Airport. Most of the money for the $500,000 project is supposed to come from the FAA.
The Decorah City Council has approved going ahead with the project now, even though funding is uncertain. However, there have been complaints from city council members about Congress' "political maneuvering" with the FAA budget.
