Logsdon, Askelson win county supervisor primaries

Tuesday was a good day for one Winneshiek County Board Chairman and one former Winneshiek County Board Chairman.

Les Askelson--who used to serve as chairman of the Winneshiek County Board--on Tuesday turned back a challenge from former Decorah City Council member Tade Kerndt to win the Republican Party's nomination for Supervisor District 3.  Askelson had 72 percent of the vote in the district.  He will face Democrat Dean Thompson in the November general election.

The man who replaced Askelson as County Board Chair--John Logsdon--also won his primary election contest on Tuesday.  Logsdon took 67 percent of the vote in District 4, turning back a challenge from Devin Humpal.

Democrat Steve Mc Cargar and Republican Michael Bergan were the favorites of Winneshiek County voters in their respective primaries for Iowa House District 55.  However, the district also includes half of Fayette County and a portion of Clayton County.  When those votes were added, Bergan won the Republican nomination, but Mc Cargar lost by just 56 votes out of almost 1,700 votes cast.
