Members of the Hannah Lee Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution got an up close look at the Porter House Museum in Decorah as part of their most recent meeting.

The Porter House Museum is an villa style mansion that was originally built for $10,000, but would cost upward of $1 million to recreate.  The house was home to the Porter family until it was turned into a natural history museum in the late 1960s.

Because the Porters were financially secure throughout life, Mr. Porter spent his time collecting and adventuring. The house museum boasts an impressive collection of rocks, insects and fossils as well as handcrafted wares from around the world.

The Porter House Museum is located at 401 W Broadway.
