The Winneshiek County Convention and Visitors Bureau hosted a "Twitter Chat" today about tourism in WInneshiek County in partnership with Midwest Travel Bloggers.

Using the hashtag #mwtravel and #visitdecorah, people were invited to tweet in about their favorite restaurants, activities and events in Winneshiek County. Among the topics touched on were Nordic Fest, food, the parks and the history of the county.

According to Executive Director Charlene Selbee, the event was catered to the 75+ bloggers who will use the information to write a blog post about the county on midwesttravelbloggers.com.

"I used to bring writers in for a personal visit, which was good, but this way is just so much more efficient, and also kind of fun," Selbee said.

Selbee hoped that by generating discussions about the fun things to do in Winneshiek County, tourists may be more excited to visit the country for the first time or come back for another visit.

"I'm always asking 'How can we get people to stay one more day?'" Selbee said. "We already have people coming and that's great, but we want them to stay more time and then also be exploring around Decorah and the rest of Winneshiek County."
