Plea agreement triggers jail time for Decorah man whose actions led to a school lockout

When Decorah resident Bruce Divers this week approved a plea agreement to charges that arose from a school lockout in Decorah in April, it triggered a jail sentence in a previous criminal case.

Divers entered "guilty" pleas to two counts of 2nd Degree Harassment and one count of 3rd Degree Harassment--charges that were filed after Divers sent e-mails to two teachers at Carrie Lee School and posted a Facebook message containing threats against the teachers.  He was sentenced to one year in prison on each of the 2nd Degree Harassment charges and 30 days on the 3rd Degree Harassment charge.  In exchange for his guilty pleas, those prison sentences have been suspended and Divers has been placed on two years probation.

As part of that plea agreement, Divers has agreed that his actions this year represented a violation of the sentence he received in 2011 on four drug-related charges.  Divers was sentenced then to a total of 25 years in prison, but put on five years probation.  Now that Divers has pleaded guilty to the three harassment charges, Judge John Bauercamper has sentenced Divers to 70 days in jail on a violation of probation.
