2016 Driftless Safari kicks off Memorial Day Weekend

Posted: Thu, May 26, 2016 5:21 PM

The 2016 Winneshiek Driftless Safari is set to begin Memorial Day weekend, running until Halloween.

To participate in Driftless Safari, pick up a free map and guidebook at the Calmar Public Library (101 S. Washington Street), Decorah Public Library (202 Winnebago Street), Fort Atkinson Public Library (302 3rd Street NW), Ossian Public Library (123 West Main Street) or the Spillville Public Library (201 Oak Street).

The guidebook and map feature 20 Winneshiek County locations.  Participants in the Driftless Safari follow the clues in the guidebook to find a wooden post affixed with a special tile, using that tile to make a crayon rubbing in their guidebook as proof of their visit.  The 2016 Driftless Safari features a mix of old favorites and new sites, so even those who have participated in previous years can participate this year.

Scavenger hunt participants who are able to visit at least 15 of the 20 Safari sites will have their name entered in a drawing for one of several prizes at the end of the season.

Further information on the Driftless Safari program can be found at www.driftless-safari.org or by calling (563) 534-7145.
