A second eaglet at the Decorah North nest died Wednesday.

Raptor Resource Project Executive Director John Howe announced that the live camera view of the nest has been shut down "to spare viewers additional heartache."  RRP continues to privately monitor the camera.

"DN2"--the second eaglet hatched this spring at the Decorah North nest--had not been observed to be breathing for several hours and eventually was declared dead.

The remaining eaglet hatched this spring--"DN1"--is reported to be "active, alert and playing with sticks and nest fluff."  The mother eagle earlier had appeared to be somewhat sick, but is now flapping her wings and looking like she may be recovering a bit.  The father eagle has been observed and does not seem to be affected.

Howe says, "RRP is continuing to monitor the situation...and will also do our best to try and figure out the cause of the events to the best of our ability with other experts."
