When the Decorah Municipal Swimming Pool opens for the season on Sunday, swimmers won't just notice the new swimming pool slide.
A giant mural has been painted on one outside wall of the bathhouse and another mural will be hung inside. Another two murals are in the works.
The artwork is by Jennifer Jones, who tells decorahnews.com, "The large mural (24 feet wide by 8 feet tall) depicts five individuals of varied age swimming underwater. This mural was made possible through Memorial Funds donated by family and friends of Joyce Cote who was an avid swimmer and art lover."
Jones says the other mural depicts a series of legs hanging over the side of the pool.
Jones and Decorah Parks & Recreation are looking for funding to complete the other two murals. One will be situated on an exterior pool side wall outside of the guard room featuring underwater views of lifeguards in action. The other will be painted on panels and situated in the entry area of the pool directly behind the cashier
A raffle of a donated painting worth $425 will be held to help raise funds for one or both the remaining murals. Tickets will be $2 each or three for $5. They will go on sale June 1st at the "Slide Into Summer Party" and will be available through June 13th at the pool.
