Silos and Smokestacks chooses a Winneshiek County photo for its 2016 tourism guide

When someone requests a Visitors Guide (http://www.silosandsmokestacks.org/request-a-visitors-guide/) from the Silos and Smokestacks program in 2016, they will see a cover that has a photo of Winneshiek County.

The picture shows young children in period costumes playing at the Locust School.

It's the second year in a row the cover of the Silos and Smokestacks visitor's guide has featured a Winneshiek County photo--last year's guide used a photo of Seed Savers Exchange.

Silos & Smokestacks was formed in 1996 as a National Heritage Area covering 37 counties in the northeast quadrant of Iowa.  Interstate 80 borders it on the south and Interstate 35 borders it on the west.

Silos and Smokestacks interprets farm life, agribusiness, and rural communities in Iowa– past and present.
