Adam asks, "What are the rules for posting signs on city/public property?"

Mr. Answer Person says, "The photo you included was of Water Street Park, which was an idea that started with the guy who signs my paychecks, decorahnews.com benevolent overlord Paul Scott, so it's politically prudent for me to allow him to answer your question."

Paul Scott says, "It warms my heart to be walking down Water Street, as I was on Saturday morning, and to see all the activity in downtown Decorah, including an event sponsored in part by Thrivent Financial that was using the gazebo in the Water Street Park.  The park has turned into a real meeting place for people and a useful place for local organizations to hold events.

Maybe, Adam, you're not going to agree with each and every organization using the park or using public property, but the bigger picture is that Decorah was an incredibly busy, vibrant community over the weekend.

Now, to directly answer your question: People using parks need to get a permit from the Decorah Park-Rec Department.  People using other city property (such as streets) need to get a permit from the City Clerk's Office.
