Northeast Iowa couples experiencing fertility problems can now use telemedicine to Gundersen physicians in Onalaska

For couples in the Decorah area, Gundersen Health System is now using telemedicine to offer initial consultations for people wanting to talk with fertility specialists in an effort to get pregnant.

"Instead of asking couples to drive to the Gundersen Center for Women in Onalaska, one of our fertility specialists can care for patients through a live video link from the Gundersen Decorah Clinic to our Center for Women in Onalaska," explains Gundersen Fertility Center embryologist Joy Peterson.

The telemedicine visits can determine if tests need to be performed.  Peterson says patients would need to travel to Onalaska for any additional appointments.

Gundersen offers a variety of specialty services through telemedicine. The telemedicine unit is equipped with a room camera and handheld patient exam camera, both deliver high-definition clarity. There is also a view screen so the patient can see and talk with the fertility specialist as well. Clinical telemedicine appointments are not recorded and the signals sent between locations are encrypted so transmissions are secure and private in compliance with HIPAA privacy regulations.

For more information or to schedule an appointment in Gundersen Fertility Center, call (608) 775-2306 or (800) 362-9567, extension 52306.
