300 first grade and special education students throughout Winneshiek County have been participating in an educational tree planting program this month.

Fort Atkinson Nursery owner Scott Sindelar donated seedling Black Hill Spruce trees.  ISU Extension and Outreach staff and Winneshiek County master gardeners helped the students with the planting.  Students not only planted the trees, but learned how to care for their trees in the future.

John Cline Elementary and St. Benedict School in Decorah, South Winneshiek Elementary and DeSales in Ossian, North Winneshiek, Turkey Valley and CFS in Spillville participate in the trees for kids program.

Volunteers included Maryann Baker, Bob Davis, Jim Lage, Dave & Joy Roslien, Ed Brooks and Jim Beeghly.
