Hacker, Nelson & Co. has been honored for rehabilitation of their landmark downtown Decorah building.

At a ceremony Friday afternoon at Java John's Coffee House, Hacker, Nelson & Co. partner Neil Schraeder called the building an important part of Decorah's legacy.

Local researcher Cindy Womeldorf told the audience at the award ceremony that the distinctive style of the building dates to 1897, when the Citizens Savings Bank bought the building and added a turret and the stone facade that still exists more than 100 years later.

Decorah Historic Preservation Commission chair Mark Muggli called the building "One of Decorah's gems."
